Within half an hour of Rockstar Games posting its Grand Theft Auto VI Launch Trailer on Thursday, 15 October, the video had drawn 1.1 million views, by Forbes’ count. For fans waiting since the first trailer in December 2023, this one came with a finish line. The GTA 6 release date is five weeks away: Thursday, 19 November 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

It is the last big trailer for a game carrying unusual weight. Its predecessor, GTA V, has shipped more than 230 million copies, according to Take-Two figures reported by Game Developer. Take-Two, Rockstar’s parent company, cites the launch in backing its yearly sales forecast.

The GTA 6 release date is set, and the trailer brings a new song

Rockstar’s post confirms the date. Pre-load, the early download that lets you play the moment the game unlocks, starts on 12 November.

The GTA 6 launch trailer debuts “Flower in a Hurricane”, a new song by Justice, the French duo behind the game’s score. Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard feature on the track. GameSpot and gHacks say it shows more of Jason and Lucia’s relationship and plenty of helicopter action. The story is set in Vice City, in Rockstar’s fictional state of Leonida.

Two delays, no PC date and no online mode yet

Take-Two once aimed for autumn 2025. In May 2025, Rockstar moved the game to 26 May 2026, and six months later to 19 November. Each time it apologised. The second time, it said the extra months would help it finish the game “with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve”.

PC players face the biggest open question. Rockstar has announced no PC version, and gHacks reports that Microsoft said the game will not be playable on PC through cloud streaming either. GameSpot, citing GamesBeat and unnamed industry sources, reports that a PC version could arrive in the first three months of 2027. Rockstar has not confirmed that.

Is GTA 6 going to have online play? Not at launch, as far as we know. Rockstar calls it “a single player experience”, and no online mode has been announced.

Rumour: a leaker quoted by Gfinity in April claimed an online mode could follow within a month of launch. Rockstar has not confirmed it.

Before you pre-order, check your console, your storage and the fine print

The official GTA 6 price for the Standard and Ultimate editions (checked on 16 October 2026):

  • United States: US$79.99 and US$99.99 (PlayStation Store and Xbox.com).
  • United Kingdom: £69.99 and £89.99 (PlayStation Store).
  • India: ₹5,999 and ₹7,499 (PlayStation Store).

A few things are easy to miss:

  • You need a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S. PlayStation says it will not run on PS4.
  • Boxed copies have no disc. The box holds only a download code, so you need decent internet either way.
  • Make room before 12 November. Rockstar has not published a file size. Rumour: leaks reported by Upcomer suggest just under 200 GB on PS5.
  • The free GTA+ month renews itself. Digital pre-orders on PlayStation include a month of Rockstar’s paid membership, which becomes a paid subscription unless you cancel.
  • Ignore “leaked” downloads. There is no official demo or PC copy. Malwarebytes found fake GTA 6 “demo” sites spreading malware that steals saved passwords and logged-in sessions.

Rockstar’s patience looks wise, but players are paying for the wait

There is a fair case for Rockstar. Delays frustrate people, but a studio that apologises and then ships a polished game usually earns trust back. A fixed pre-load date and a final trailer five weeks out suggest, on balance, that 19 November will hold. That is our reading, not a promise.

The costs are real too. US$79.99 is a lot for a standard edition, and Ultimate adds another US$20. PC players must wait with no official date. A disc-free box means a big download for everyone.

For Take-Two, the stakes are plain. In August, chief executive Strauss Zelnick cited “excitement around the November 19th launch” as Take-Two kept its yearly forecast of US$8.0 to 8.2 billion in net bookings (roughly, the value of sales it records). That is a lot to rest on one game.

On balance, this looks like a careful launch aimed at console players first. Console owners need not rush: the pre-order bonus runs to 20 November, though Rockstar’s store says “while supplies last”. PC players should wait for official word. More big releases are in our launches section.

Watch three things: whether 19 November holds, what reviewers say, and whether Rockstar names a PC date. After a year of extra waiting, five more weeks should feel short.
